In 2018, Diane Spence found inspiration in her son, Isaac. She recognised that for him, and countless other young people, feeling empowered by their racial identity was vital, yet often out of reach due to socioeconomic factors and environmental barriers.
Through her career in the technology sector, Diane, fondly known as Dee, witnessed the stark lack of representation in underrepresented industries and the slow progress of social mobility in the UK. These challenges ignited her mission to drive meaningful change and create brighter opportunities for young people starting life at a disadvantage.
In 2020, that mission gave birth to Genesis Sun. Diane partnered with her lifelong friend, Debra Johnson, who shared her passion and belief that underrepresented young people needed more encouragement, an understanding of cultural heritage, accessible pathways to success and a place to express their creativity.
Joining them was Taylor Johnson, Diane’s godchild and Debra’s daughter, who brought a vision of a future where every young person receives the career support and opportunities they deserve. Together, they formed the founding team of Genesis Sun, united by their dedication to empowering the next generation.
Genesis represents beginnings, creation, and transformation. It embodies a fresh start, offering young people the innovative thinking and opportunities they need to build brighter futures.
Just as the sun illuminates, warms, and nurtures, we aim to inspire brighter futures for young people by uncovering their hidden talents and helping them shine as the stars they are destined to be.
Since 2022, we have connected with over 1,000 young people, empowering them to discover their unique potential, build essential skills, and access vital support. By focusing on those most impacted by socioeconomic challenges, we strive to transform life outcomes and open doors to opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach.
